The beirut Tragedy

                                                                   Beirut Tragedy

One month ago, today, 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded in the port of Beirut, killing more than 200 people, wounding 5000 others, and leaving 300,000 residents temporarily homeless.

This explosion is the third biggest explosion involving ammonium nitrate and it will go down in history to be one of the worst tragedies in the history of ammonium nitrate.

The tragedy still carries on people homeless and the fire has been neutralised but the buildings are shattered and this will take a long time to fix.

This week for current events we did an overall quiz so we went over some questions that we had done.

Armistice.

On 1918 The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month was the moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front in 1918, following the signing of an armistice.

What is an armistice? An armistice is a formal agreement declared between two sides to stop fighting.
In 1918 the germans were exhausted from all the fighting that they had been doing it was then when the german government approached the united states and asked for them to stop the war.

After four terrible years of fighting the fighting officially ended on the eleventh hour the eleventh day and the eleventh month.

Who has surrendered against the allies?
Bulgaria surrendered first. It signed an armistice with the Allies on 29 September 1918, following an offensive against it earlier in the month. News of its capitulation spread throughout New Zealand on the morning of Tuesday 1 October. People hoisted flags and bunting on buildings and ships, set off sirens, rang bells, blew whistles and cheered.

The next country to surrender was Germany German armed forces surrender unconditionally in the west. Soviet forces encircled Berlin, the German capital on April 25, 1945. This surrender was the most historic event in world war one. The last countries to surrender that were Britain, France, Italy and Russia they all signed an armistice to end the world war.

I enjoyed doing this because it was really interesting and I learnt a lot about the war and what happened in the war.
I found this really interesting and fun to learn.

See through toilets in tokyo.

 The See-Through Toilets In Tokyo.

Who made them? And why were they created?

Artist Monica Bonvicini created this usable public toilet made of 1-way mirrors. It allows

the users to do their business while watching their city or town pass by them.

How do the toilets work?

When you outside of the toilets you can see through but once you walk in motion sensors turn on so once you walk in you can’t see through them from the outside.

What are the see-through toilets made from?

They are made from "smart glass" designed so people can see how clean they are inside before using them.

Today we did a survey about all the current world attractions and I worked on the see through toilets.

I liked doing this because It was very interesting learning about all the most interesting topics to the most stupid world attractions.

Something That I found challenging about doing this was finding the topic because there were so many interesting topics.

maori history book

Maori history.

The first contact with Maori was discovered by Abel Tasman when he discovered new Zealand. He arrived on the coast of New Zealand in December 1642. He and the English did a battle with a group of Maori on South Island.

In 1840 the treaty of Waitangi was officially signed by both Maori chiefs and English pakeha lead by the crown.

After the treaty was signed the pakeha population was way bigger than the Maori population new Zealand was overcome by pakeha.

Today we have holidays to separate the Maori culture like Waitangi day witch was the treaty that brought the Maori and the Europeans together and Maori language week was the Maori went to parliament and said the Maori language needs to be an official language in New Zealand and now it is.

Hello Goodbye Poem

Hello Goodbye Poem

Hello, dad waking me up at 8:00 am in the morning so I can actually get to school.

Goodbye sleep-ins and peacefully waking up to the sounds of birds chirping.

Hello, finally seeing my friends and going outside not just for a run in the early morning.

Goodbye, the late nights and all of the fizzy drinks.

tranformation

This lesson we were looking at different types of transformation,
The first one was reflection, this is when you flip a shape over an axis, this shape stays the same size it's just mirrored.
Next one was translation, this is when you slide a shape to a different point, the shape stays the same size.
Then it was rotation, when a shape rotates through zero to three hundred and sixty degrees, this shape stays the same size.
Lastly, it was dilation, this is when a shape stays the same but the size changes.

matariki.

Matariki is on the 25th of June and it also signals the Māori New Year.
It is a time of renewal and celebration in New Zealand
that begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster.

Why do we celebrate Matariki?

We celebrate Matariki for a signal of the Maori new year,
and it also is a stunning sight,
according to stardome observatory just after sunset is the best time to go outside and see the stars.

How do we celebrate Matariki?

Cook traditional Maori vegetables for a healthy kai for your family,
explore the outdoors,

And most importantly get involved.

individual anzac writing.

The engine roars, as we approach the beach the bullets fly past the carrier when all of a sudden the ramp falls down and I jump off the side waist-deep in the sea,   with my best friend to my side with blood streaming down his face I try and stop the bleeding but it's too late He's dead. I get behind cover and try and take a shot but the machine gun shoots my helmet right off, I flank around and get a shot, but there were enemy soldiers watching it so I sneak across and get my bayonet and charge and get one, so I have a shot on the machine gunner and “Boom” we push forward we have the high ground and we continue to push forward and get to there trenches and It's empty they have retreated and we take control of Gallipoli.

Anzac writing

Anzac day is a day to remember Australians and New Zealanders who served in all wars.
Dawn services, commemorative marches and remembrance services take place on 25th of April every year which is the anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War.

Three things that surprised me about Anzac day.

1- The first dawn service on ANZAC Day was in 1923. Although there were commemorative services the first official dawn service was held on 1923.

2- The ANZACs were all volunteers.
Everyone over eighteen had to go to war or else you would go to military jail.

3- More than 11,000 ANZACs died at Gallipoli and more than 23,500 were wounded.
Australia had 5482 killed in action, 2012 died of wounds, 665 died of disease, total deaths 8159. 17,924 were wounded. 8556 New Zealanders served in the war, and 2721 died, 4752 were wounded, a total of 7473 casualties.

Three facts I’ve found more about.

1- There were 2000 men killed or wounded on the first day of the Gallipoli campaign.

2- after an 8-month long campaign the British and French forces had suffered 44,000 deaths, the Turkish had at least 85,000 deaths.

3- Gallipoli was the first major amphibious operation in modern warfare ever! The Anzacs landed on the Ottoman held peninsula in the Dardanelles straits with disastrous consequences for the allies.

spinning wheel

https://we.tl/b-5iEyRB4eg

Yesterday I and my dad made these spinning wheels to show how light can change how we see
colours. RGB is called an additive colour system because the combinations of red, green and blue light create the colours that we see by stimulating the cone cells simultaneously in our eyes. We have shown how red and green can look yellow when spun quickly and how blue and yellow can look white. This is different to when mixing paint of the same colours. We used a fidget spinner to help it spin faster.
